Dierbergs Markets Breaks Ground on New Grocery Store at Market at Olive Development in University City

A major milestone in ongoing revitalization efforts along Olive Boulevard

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO – May 23, 2025 – Dierbergs Markets, a leading family-owned grocery store chain serving the St. Louis region for more than 171 years, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 29, for its 28th store at the Market at Olive Development in University City.

Members of the community and the press are invited to attend the ceremony to celebrate the project kick-off for this new development, marking a significant step in the transformation of the corridor at Olive and I-170 into a vibrant commercial and residential hub.

In attendance will be local dignitaries, project partners, and members of the community, including University City Mayor Terry Crow and key representatives from Dierbergs and the Market at Olive development team.

 

Ceremony Details

Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Ceremony to be held on the building site on the Southeast corner of Hwy 170 and Olive Blvd. (Location could be muddy. Please dress appropriately.)
Parking: Attendees are asked to park nearby in designated areas on the attached map. All options will include a short walk to the ceremony site.

“This is more than a groundbreaking – it’s the beginning of a new chapter for University City,” said Mayor Terry Crow. “We are excited to welcome Dierbergs as a cornerstone of the Market at Olive, bringing fresh food options, jobs, and renewed economic energy to this important part of our city.”

The new 75,000 sq. ft. grocery store will anchor the broader Market at Olive redevelopment and also include two multi-tenant buildings adding approximately 8,500 square feet of retail, restaurant, and service space along Olive Blvd.

Construction on the Dierbergs store is expected to be completed in 2026.
