Members of the community and the press are invited to attend a ceremony that morning to celebrate the project kick off for this exciting new development which will take place in nearly the same location as the original groundbreaking of Crestwood Mall in 1955.

Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2022 (Note: This is a rescheduled date/time from the original 4/13 due to forecasted inclement weather.)
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Location: Ceremony to be held at the southwest corner of the property near Watson and Sappington Road.
Parking: Attendees are asked to park nearby at City Hall. There will be a short walk to the ceremony site.

Attendees can expect remarks from Bob Dierberg, Chairman of Dierbergs Markets; John F. Eilermann, Jr., CEO and Chairman of McBride Homes; Grant Mabie, Mayor of Crestwood; and Mark Zorensky, President of Hycel Properties Co., the original developer of the site. Dierbergs’ CEO and President Greg Dierberg and Executive Vice President Laura Dierberg-Padousis will be available for questions immediately following the ceremony.

Dierbergs’ commercial development, “Dierbergs Crestwood Crossing”, will occupy the western portion of the site and the entire 1/2 mile frontage along Watson Road and include Dierbergs’ new 70,000 square foot prototype store, plus additional retail space in the center of the development and multiple outlot opportunities on the east and west ends of the center.

The eastern portion of the site will focus on residential housing, with a mix of product lines by McBride Homes. The neighborhood, “The Villages at Crestwood Crossing”, will feature 81 single-family homes in total, with 35 from McBride’s Bayside Series, 15 from their Oakwood Series, and 31 city-style homes that were featured at La Collina, McBride’s recent neighborhood development on The Hill.

Mark Zorensky, President, Hycel Properties Co., the developer of the original Crestwood Plaza property and the shopping center owner for 41 years will also be available for comments after the ceremony. Noteworthy historical facts about the development site, courtesy of Zorensky include:

• Once fully developed, Crestwood Plaza was 1,090,000 square feet.
• Crestwood Plaza originally opened in 1957 and became a fully enclosed mall in October 1984.
• Sears was the first tenant. Other department stores became long-standing tenants including Vandervoorts, which later became Famous Barr, and Stix, Baer & Fuller, which later became Dillards.
• Tenants of the former mall location, who are no longer operating in the St. Louis area include: FW Woolworths, Boyds, Franklin Simon, Libson Shop and Wehmueller Jewelers, to name a few.
• Candidate for U.S. President John F. Kennedy made a campaign stop at Crestwood Plaza in 1960.
